Chopin replaced the  written in AI with a long accent in A (→GE1FEEE). In GE2 the sign was replaced with diminuendo hairpins.

Longer slur in AI

Slur in AI without a "triplet" slur

Slurs in A (→GEFEEE)

..

Here and in analogous bars 9-10 our main text repeats the slurring of A (→GEFEEE). However, in the editors' opinion it is possible that a longer slur in AI better reflects Chopin's idea of articulation and phrasing in these places. This is supported by the comparison with analogous bars 29-30 & 33-34, where A has slurs corresponding just to the notation of AI.

Our suggestion

..

A has no pedal release mark in this bar. A comparison with the concurrent version in all analogous bars (9, 29 & 33) lets us regard this lack as a mistake. In the main text, in keeping with the A notation in these bars we supplement the  mark at the end of bar. In GE1 (→FEEE) the asterisk was added under a rest, in accordance to a rule applied by GE in the entire opus. It is probably an editor's revision although Chopin's correction cannot be completely ruled out.

The mark's placement in AI is not quite clear— falls under the R.H. quaver g1 but before the rest in the L.H. We take the latter relation as authoritative.

b. 6-7

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major

..

In A (→GEFEEE) the slurs begins from a flat1 in bar 6 and we rely on that logical notation in our main text. In AI the beginning of that slur is unclear  - the beginning is bar 6 is missing.

In AI the  mark is placed before the rest on the 3rd beat, and in A at the end of the bar. Although the notation of A leaves no doubt as to Chopin's intention GE (→FEEE) printed earlier, under the rest on the 3rd beat (Cf. note to bar 2). In our main text we rely on A, however, in the editors' opinion the pedalling of both autographs may be regarded here as alternative.
