b. 373

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

Crotchet in FE (→GE1GE2)

Dotted crotchet in EE & GE3

Dotted crotchet suggested by the editors

..

In FE (→GE1GE2), the missing dot prolonging the c3 crotchet seems to be an inaccuracy of notation, since that note is naturally continued by b2 at the beginning of the next bar. There is no reason (also pianistic) to break the two-part notation. The dot was added already in EE and GE3. There is a similar situation in bar 377.

Fingering written into FEH

Selected fingering from FEH

..

Out of the fingering digits written in FEH, we adopt to the main text the group that stands out due to resemblance to Chopin's handwriting.

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

..

The cautionary sharps before the c-c1 octave were added in GE and EE2 (→EE3); they were also added in FEH. In bar 375, the cautionary sharps before g2 at the beginning of the bar and G-g on the 3rd quaver are present in all sources; GE3 added also a  before g3, less justified, according to us. In turn, in the main text we add a  before f3 in bar 374. The counterparts of the cautionary accidentals added by us in bar 374 are present in the sources in analogous bar 378.

d3 in FE (→EE,GE1GE2), literal reading

d3 in FE (→EE,GE1GE2), contextual interpretation, & in GE3

..

The missing  must be Chopin's oversight – in two previous bars, d notes are featured on several occasions as elements of chords and belong to the F minor key, consolidated in the discussed bar. Oversights of accidentals are very frequent in Chopin's oeuvre in such a context. The version with d3 is also supported by analogy with bar 379. Chopin added a  in FED; however, it was only just in GE3 that it was added in print.

Fingering written into FEH

No teaching fingering

..

The two fingering digits in FEH could have been written by Chopin, hence we include them in the main text.
