The version of FE with a wedge present only in the L.H. cannot correspond to Chopin's intention, who was clearly striving for homogeneous articulation markings in both hands in this theme. It is likely that the wedge in the R.H. was overlooked, like it was assessed in GE and EE; however, a glance at the markings of both appearances of the theme (bars 171-205 and 415-449) makes us assume an erroneously added wedge in this place, since a staccato mark at the end of a slur never appears in those fragments. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions |

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

The missing staccato dots in the 2nd half of the bar is the last of a few mistakes and inaccuracies committed in FE in this bar. The markings were added in the remaining editions; however, it is only EE and GE3 that added them in accordance with the R.H. part. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions |

A comparison with analogous bars 176, 184 and 420 suggests an oversight of 2 or 4 staccato dots in [A] or FE. In the main text, we add dots only under the last quaver in both hands, after bars 176 and 184, in which, like here, the slurs reach the quaver in the middle of the bar. The additions in GE refer to bar 420, while GE3 also changed the slurs accordingly. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions |

The missing staccato dots under the chords are probably an oversight of the engraver of GE. It is already a second situation in this theme (after bar 412), which may mean that the dots were added only just in the last proofreading of FE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , Authentic corrections of FE |

The missing wedge in the L.H. part is probably an oversight. Admittedly, we considered the wedge in bar 419, present only in the part of one of the hands, to be probably erroneous, yet in the case of the discussed bar there are not as many analogous situations allowing for comparisons (only bar 192), which leaves us without grounds to question the wedge in the R.H. featured in the sources. The accuracy of the change of wedges to dots in GE3 cannot be excluded – wedges do not appear among the staccato marks used in this theme by Chopin; nevertheless, according to us, it is not a sufficient argument to modify the version of the principal source. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Wedges |
