EE2 - Corrected impression of EE2

Publisher: Wessel & Co
Date: ca 1856-60
Plate number: W & Co. No. 1086
Title: Premier Grand Concerto
Dedication: Monsieur Fr. Kalkbrenner

Corrected impression of EE, dating back to ca. 1856-1860, available also later, already after the Wessel publishing house had been taken over by the Ashdown & Parry company. It is from that period (ca. 1864*) that the copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes.

In EE2, a number of various defects of EE1 was corrected, mainly patent, e.g.:

  • accidentals were added, e.g. in bar 213385; cautionary accidentals were also added, e.g. in bar 14211214296327,
  • the rhythmic error in bar 141 was corrected,
  • a slur was added in bars 142-143,
  • the erroneous fingering in bar 151 was corrected,
  • an arpeggio mark before broad chords in bars 199 and 201 was added,
  • an octave sign in bars 433-434, which was too short, was extended,

Some of the changes of EE2 were most probably introduced on the basis of comparison with GE2, e.g.:

  • change of the e2 quaver to a semiquaver in bar 393,
  • f1 added to the 1st semiquaver in bar 453.

The fact of moving g1, the 1st quaver in bar 391, two octaves higher was a totally arbitrary action, although probably inspired also by the version of GE2.

Minor retouches, mainly of graphic nature, were also introduced, e.g. the accent at the end of bar 177 was moved to the left.
