Slurs from 3rd semiquaver in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Dots & slurs in GE3

Slurs from 1st semiquaver suggested by the editors

..

In the main text, we suggest starting the slurs in both hands from the 1st semiquaver, since in similar places slurs starting from the beginning of semiquaver sequences are more frequent (e.g. in the next bar or in bars 412-413). In GE3, shorter slurs were kept, whereas the first two semiquavers were arbitrarily provided with staccato dots.

Wedges in EE & GE3

Wedges suggested by the editors

..

In spite of this and a few other minor inaccuracies, the need to perform the quavers opening particular bars staccato is unquestionable in the sources. Wedges were added already in EE and GE3.

Fingering in GE3

..

The fingering added in GE3 cannot come from Chopin, although its compliance with the Chopinesque fingering cannot be excluded.

b. 432-433

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

The notation of FE (→EE1) is devoid of cautionary accidentals in bar 432. In EE2 (→EE3), a  was added before a1 in the L.H., while in GE, also a  before the first f2 in the R.H. As the sequence is repeated in bar 433, all sources contain a  before f2 in the L.H.; moreover, GE introduced analogous additions to bar 432 – a  before a2 in the L.H. and a  before the 1st f3 in the R.H. In the main text, we include the naturals before a1 and a2 added in GE and add a  before f1 in the L.H. in bar 432 (after an authentic accidental in the next bar).

Fontana's fingering in EE

Fingering written into FEH

..

One of the fingerings given by Fontana may correspond to the Chopinesque fingering; however, it is highly unlikely that those indications could come from Chopin. The authenticity of the entries performed by a foreign hand in FEH is also questionable.
