Verbal indications

b. 1

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

The title and dedication according to GE (→FE)

The title and dedication of A after inclusion of the probable contents of the lost title page for the entire opus

Elements added in EE

..

There are certain differences between the sources in the wording of the title given to the entire opus and to that particular Nocturne. EE is the most arbitrary in that respect, containing a sentimental and definitely inauthentic title "Les Plaintives".

b. 1

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

A correct metronome marking in A (→GEFE)

A missing dot in EE

..

The metronome marking in FE is printed inaccurately: the '=' sign is missing and the dot extending the value of the crotchet is only visible in some copies. This is perhaps the reason why the dot is missing in the metronome marking of EE.

b. 2

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

In GE (→FE) Chopin's dolce was replaced with the abbreviation dol. In EE the full name of the term was restored.

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

cresc. in A (literal notation)

FE (→EE)

..

The sources differ slightly in the placement of the indication cresc. For the edited text we adopt the notation based on A (→GE).

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

L.H. articulation in A

FE (→EE1)

..

Correcting in FE the incomplete articulation markings for the left hand part taken over from GE1, Chopin changed his concept in that respect. The additions made in EE3 and GE2 are editors' corrections, although they make use of authentic markings.
