Disregarding A, the hairpins in GE (→FE→EE) were stretched to fill all the available space between con forza at the beginning of the bar and the hairpins at the end, surely contrary to Chopin's intention. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Scope of dynamic hairpins |

We take into account the unquestionable and natural fingering written into FES. The fingering in FED is difficult to read: it was probably written two times and it is not clear whether the same digits were written twice (121), or whether they were different digits (121 and 14). Therefore we give both options as variants. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , Annotations in FED , Annotations in FES |

In the ascending part of the run in A (→GE→FE→EE) there is neither reinstating f3 nor reinstating a flat3. This is surely a mistake – f flat and a double flat would be binding not only in those places but also in the passage ending the run. Omissions of accidentals in such situations are among Chopin's most frequent mistakes. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Omissions to cancel alteration |

A has no accidentals before the 4th, 11th and 16th note of the 2nd half of the bar, which results in c3 and twice c flat4. GE has an added before the last one of those notes. In the proofing of FE (→EE), and also in GE2 a was added before c3 and a moved and placed before the preceding c flat4. According to the rules of chromatic spelling, all those notations result in the same text. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE |

When writing A, Chopin overlooked the fact that in the passage ending the run a is necessary not only before the last note but also four notes earlier in order to lower c3 to c flat3 (or only before that earlier note, depending on the adopted principle for accidentals before notes with an octave sign). The error was corrected in GE (→FE) by moving the before the fifth note counting from the end of the bar. In EE this corrected notation was supplemented by again adding the sign before the last note. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions |
