Issues : Omissions to cancel alteration

b. 52

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

..

In the ascending part of the run in A (→GEFEEE) there is neither  reinstating f3 nor  reinstating a flat3. This is surely a mistake – f flat and a double flat would be binding not only in those places but also in the passage ending the run. Omissions of accidentals in such situations are among Chopin's most frequent mistakes.

No flats for e flat in A

for e flat2 w GE (→FEEE), we also supplement the  for e flat

..

A has no flats before the last notes of both hands which, given the presence of naturals in the 1st half of the bar, results in e2 and e.  There are many arguments pointing to the conclusion that the omission of those flats by Chopin was an oversight. The flat restoring e flatwas added in GE (→FEEE), perhaps on the composer's request. We add the necessary  restoring e flat; that sign was also supplemented in GE2.

In A there is no  to restore e flat2 on the last quaver. The omission is due to Chopin's mistake, which is evidenced by the presence of  before e flat, the last semiquaver of the L.H. The missing flat in the right hand was supplemented in GE (→FEEE).
