It is uncertain what kind of staccato marks Chopin used in A at the beginning of these bars. The sign in bar 414 seems to be a small wedge, whereas the one in 415 – rather a dot. When repeating this fragment, Chopin wrote only one mark – a dot in bar 454. According to us, one can safely assume that Chopin had one type of marks in mind. The argument for wedges is the rhythmic similarity of these bars to bars 409-410, in which the use of wedges does not raise major doubts. On the other hand, the difference in articulation between these pairs of bars seems to be justified by a harmonic difference, particularly the change of mode from major to minor. In this situation, it is both the dots and the wedges that can be considered to be corresponding to Chopin's intention. No staccato marks in GE1 (→FE→EE) must be an oversight, whereas GE2 added dots. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions , Wedges |

In A, bars 415 (from the 2nd beat), 416 and the 1st quaver in bar 417 are written an octave lower, since they were not encompassed with the octave sign. This patent mistake was corrected – perhaps by Chopin – already in GE1 (→FE→EE, →GE2). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors of A , Authentic corrections of GE |

A (→GE) features a d2 as the penultimate quaver in bar 415. In the proofreading of FE (→EE), Chopin changed the notation of this note to e2. He performed an identical change in the notation of the topmost note of the chord on the penultimate quaver in bar 423. Similarly in bars 455 and 463. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Enharmonic corrections , Authentic corrections of FE |

The division of the slur in GE1 is a distortion of slurring, characteristic of this edition. In any case, the absence of the slur in bar 415 in FE (→EE) suggests that the slur in bar 415 was added in GE1 only in the last phase of proofreading, as a simplified correction of a too short slur, encompassing only bar 416. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Errors in FE , Errors in GE , GE revisions |

According to us, the absence of the slur in the L.H. is a result of Chopin's oversight: a respective slur is present in all three similar places, in bars 423-424, 455-456 and 463-464. category imprint: Editorial revisions |
