b. 413-415

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Fingering written into FED

No teaching fingering

..

The fingering of FED in these bars was written most probably by Chopin. The entry at the beginning of bar 414 is not very legible, since one of the two Chopinesque digits (24) was then "enhanced" by the pupil.

Wedge in bar 413 in A

Dot in bar 413 in GE

No marks in FE (→EE)

Wedges in bars 413 & 421 suggested by the editors

..

The wedge at the beginning of bar 413 was reproduced in GE as a dot. In FE (→EE) the sign was overlooked. No staccato mark in analogous bar 421 must be Chopin's oversight: it is the first bar on a new page of A, which was frequently related to various inaccuracies of notation.

In the main text we omit the cautionary naturals before eat the beginning of bars 413 and 415 and before ein bar 413. Although the change of key to F major was confirmed by the key signature, on a number of occasions, Chopin wrote unjustified naturals before e notes also later – cf. e.g. bars 424 or 428.

In the main text we add cautionary flats before bat the beginning of bars 414, 415, 422 and 423. In the first two bars, the signs are present in EE3. Chopin wrote a respective  in A in the last appearance of a similar situation, in bar 463.

In FE (→EE1EE2) a  was placed before b2, which is a mistake. Such a developed version, with a b2-dthird, is conspicuous only when performing the piece with orchestra (din the viola part), which may have contributed to the absence of a correction in EE1, generally carefully revised. In EE3 the  before b2 was preserved; in addition, a second one was added, lowering d3 to d3
