EE2 - Revised impression of EE1

Publisher: Wessel & Co
Date: ca 1856-60
Plate number: (W & Co. No. 1642)
Title: Second Concerto
Dedication: Madame Anderson, de Londres

A later impression of EE in which a number of changes was introduced, sometimes on the basis of comparisons of similar places, e.g. an accent was added under the last chord in bar 285 and 286. A part of the changes was drawn from GE1, e.g. a superfluous  was added in bar 99 and a c1 note in bar 109, as well as two  signs in bar 111 in bar 201, accent in bar 207 in bar 213poco ritenuto and a tempo in bars 224-225, cresc. in bar 261.
The slur added in the 2nd movement of the Concertobar 14, indicates the use of one of later impressions at the time of comparison, marked in our system as GE1a.

Examples of additions introduced in EE2:
  • overlooked accidentals in bar 138, 139 ( of b1 and  of d2),
  • cautionary signs in bar 49, 137,
  • an e1-f1 slur in bar 135,
  •  in bar 139.

A few other mistakes were corrected:

  • b was changed to a in bar 178,
  • the erroneous octave sign was removed, replacing it with a  sign in bar 179,
  • the range of the octave sign in bar 211 was corrected.

Moreover, completely arbitrary changes were introduced, e.g. addition of a slur in the L.H. in bar 206.

The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from a reprint endorsed already by Wessel's successors, the Ashdown and Perry company (ca. 1864*).
