FE2 - Corrected impression of FE1

Publisher: Maurice Schlesinger
Date: VIII-IX 1836
Plate number: M.S.1940
Title: Second Concerto
Dedication: Madame la Comtesse Delphine Potocka née de Komar

A second impression of FE1, prepared soon after the first one. In the entire Concerto, ca. 30 corrections were performed therein, mainly of pitch mistakes. Chopin's participation in the proofreading of FE2 is highly likely, although the majority of the changes are corrections of mistakes that could be found by anyone comparing the text with the Stichvorlage. The proofreading could have had two phases (cf. the characterization of EE1).

The changes include, i.a.:

  • correction of the erroneous bass note in bar 143,
  • removal of the erroneous  in bar 203,
  • addition of a  raising d2 to d2 in bar 242,
  • corrections of Terzverschreibung errors in bar 243264,
  • correction of the erroneous  to a  in bar 298.

FE2 was subsequently reissued, with minor modifications of the cover (e.g. prizes were changed). The later impressions were performed by Schlesinger's successor, Brandus. The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from 1852-1859 and has already a cover of one of those impressions.
