b. 141-142

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

A1-A & C1-C in GC (→GE)

A-a & C-c in FE (→EE)

A1-A & C1-C suggested by the editors

..

The version of FE (→EE) is an earlier version, drawn from [A], as it was originally present in GC too. Chopin changed it in GC (→GE), moving the bass motif an octave lower. We give the latter – being the latest – in the main text. It seems to be an improvement due to a more consistent use of the bottom most register of the piano.
In the main text we add cautionary flats before the 1st octave of the bass motif.

b. 141-142

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

In the sources the cautionary  before a2 is at the beginning of bar 142. In the main text we move the sign to bar 141, where it is more justified. See also the note before the A1-A octave at the beginning of this bar.

b. 141

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

GC and FE1 (→FE2FE3) feature a g-f1 seventh as the 5th crotchet. The mistake was most probably in [A]; it was corrected in the proofreading of FE4. GE and EE also include the correct text.

b. 143-144

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

In GC and FE (→EE1) there are no naturals raising e1 to e1 in the 3rd crotchet in bar 143 and e3 to e3 in the 6th quaver in bar 144. The first of them was added in FED, both were added in GE and EE2.

g2 & g2 – possible interpretation

..

The source text, when interpreted literally, features gnotes on the 4th quaver of both bars. However, the appearance of gnotes both directly before these bars and after them makes an accidental oversight of naturals before one or both of these notes likely. Therefore, we suggest three, according to us justifiable, versions clarifying the source text.
