composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

There is no before the top note of the last octave in the L.H. – undoubtedly a g – in GC and FE (→EE1). This patent inaccuracy was revised in GE and EE2, however, in GE the was misplaced in front of f in the R.H. (in the sources the bottom notes of the last two octaves in the R.H. are written on the bottom stave). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , Inaccuracies in FE , Errors in GE , GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Inaccuracies in GC |

The version of FE (→EE) is most probably inaccurate – cf. bar 131. In the main text we write the chord in the version of GC using two-part notation, in order to facilitate the interpretation and after the previous bars. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions |

The absence of L.H. slurs in GE1 is most probably an engraver's oversight, perhaps provoked by doubts about their placement above or under the notes. The slurs were added in GE2. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions |

Taking into account the slur – concordant in the sources – in an analogous situation in bars 124-125, we consider the shorter slur in GC (→GE) to be inaccurate. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GC |

According to us, the differences in the marked range of the cresc. - - - indication are of a random character. In particular, the absence of dashes in bar 136 could have resulted in FE from difficulties in a legible distribution of all elements of the notation of [A] (cf. the notation of GC) or in FE itself, whereas according to Chopin's intention, crescendo was supposed to be valid most probably until in bar 137. Therefore, in the main text we suggest leading the dashes to the end of bar 136 (see also bars 127-128). The total absence of dashes in GE1 is certainly a mistake (cf. the note on the hairpin in bars 135-136). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions |
