GE1 - First German edition

Publisher: Breitkopf & Härtel
Date: X 1837
Title: Douze Etudes || 12me Etude
Dedication: Madame la Comtesse d'Agoult

GE1 is based on FC and it generally carefully reproduces the text of the base text. The differences may be mainly explained with an inaccuracy or manner of the engraver, e.g.:

  •  instead of  in bar 1;
  • G instead of F in bars 13 and 52 and G instead of F in bar 29;
  • not including the differences in the length of accents in bars 15-16 and analog. (e.g., in bars 71-75);
  • shifts of accents, forced by the graphical layout, e.g., in bars 29-32;
  • omission of a part of dashes marking the range of poco a poco cresc. in bars 35-42;
  • the shifted  hairpins in bar 46;
  • erroneous slurs in bars 81-82.

An undeniable editorial revision is addition of cautionary accidentals, e.g., a  before d in bar 14.

GE1 was provided with slightly differing covers, in particular the copies from 1841 and later have a changed price (15 Ngr instead of 12 Gr). From 1841, particular Etudes were edited separately, provided with a collective cover including 12 etudes each by Chopin, Henselt and Thalberg.
