GE1 - First German edition
Publisher: | Breitkopf & Härtel |
Date: | X 1837 |
Title: | Douze Etudes || 7me Etude |
Dedication: | Madame la Comtesse d'Agoult |
GE1 is based on GC and it generally carefully reproduces the text of the base text. The differences can be mostly explained with an inaccuracy or manner of the engraver, e.g.:
- moved , e.g., in bar 45;
- conventional interpretation of the placement of beginnings and endings of the slurs, e.g., slur of the minim in bar 1, ending of the slur in bar 27, beginning of the slur in bar 61;
- D instead of E in bar 26;
- slashing the grace note in bar 50;
- incorrect vertical writing of notes in bar 60.
Editorial revisions certainly include:
- addition of the necessary accidentals, e.g., naturals lowering c to c in bar 15 and c1 to c1 in bar 39 or a raising a to a in bar 24;
- addition of cautionary accidentals, e.g., a before b in the introduction.
In spite of a quite careful revision of accidentals, not all inaccuracies in GE1 were detected – e.g., in the introduction the 9th semiquaver f was left without the necessary .
GE1 was provided with two slightly differing covers, in particular the copies from 1841 and later include a changed price (15 Ngr instead of 12 Gr). From 1841, separate Etudes were also published separately, provided with a collective cover including 12 etudes each by Chopin, Henselt and Thalberg.
