b. 87

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Rhythmic notation in FE1

Our suggestion

..

The notation of the octave b1-bin FE and GE is certainly inaccurate, which was corrected by the reviser of EE. The extension of the quaver e2 is marked exclusively in GE. This such characteristic for Chopin detail was considered by us in the main text.

b. 88-89

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Pedalling in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the pedalling of FE (→EE). The whole-bar pedalling of GE may be assumed as a result of the engraver's adopting the real notation of [A2] to the "standard" pedalling, the most frequent one in Prelude.

b. 90-91

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Slur in FE (→EE)

No sign in GE

..

Lack of the slur in GE is most probably a result of Chopin's inaccuracy in [A2] or a mere oversight of the engraver.

b. 90-91

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

No sustained notes in FE and GE

Sustained chord in EE

..

The version of EE with an added g in bar 91 and hold of all common components of both chords is certainly unauthentic; apparently, the reviser considered the notation of FE as unfinished.

b. 91

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

No marking in FE (→EE1)

 in GE & EE2

Our variant suggestion

..

The  sign is present only in GE and EE2 (in the latter it was probably adopted from GE). In this type of contexts Chopin generally omitted the sign at the end of a piece, while the publishers often added it. Therefore, we consider that the asterisk  in GE may not be authentic and we propose a variant solution.
