b. 86-87

composition: WN 17, Polonaise in B♭ major

..

In JC there is no  returning e on the 2nd crotchet in bar 86; in turn, there are two other unjustified signs – before on the 3rd crotchet and a  before e at the beginning of bar 87. According to us, the latter were mistakenly written two crotchets too far, hence we omit them.

EF & PE

..

In the version of EF and PE, Chopin introduces the repeated section of the Trio in a way, which smoothly combines the end of bar 87 with the literally repeated beginning of bar 52. We give this version in the main text. In JC, a different ending of bar 87 leads to an adequately adjusted version of bar 52 at the beginning of bar 88; however, the notation does not determine all details, particularly rhythmic ones, of the required modification. We propose two, according to us, most probable interpretations of this transition in the notation of JC.

b. 87

composition: WN 17, Polonaise in B♭ major

..

In [AI] (→JC) and [A] (→PE), bar 87 is the last bar of the Trio written out in notes. Respective markings – Dal Segno in JCTrio dal Segno in PE – refer then to bar 52. In the main text we write the repeated bars 52-67 as bars 88-103. In EF, all the subsequent sections of the Polonaise are written out entirely.

Same as in the case of bars 38-51, the abbreviations applied in the sources contribute to the fact that the differences and problems appearing in the bars they include are a repetition of those previously discussed. When there are no new elements, we do not repeat the content of remarks, referring to the commentaries given for the first time.
