b. 153-154

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

Slur in b. 154 in A, literal reading

Slur from b. 153 in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

In the main text we provide the A slur in its literal interpretation. However, the interpretation adopted by the editions is by all means reasonable and recommendable as such, particularly in the face of numerous inaccuracies of A in terms of slurs – see, e.g. the note on bars 148-153.

b. 153

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In the main text we omit the  to c2 in the 2nd half of the bar, repeated without any apparent justification.

a2-c3 in A, contextual interpretation

c3-c3 in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

The way the 3rd quaver in the bar was written down in A is unclear – one can see a protrusion before the c3 minim, resembling a quaver notehead at the same pitch, while the presence of an a2 quaver is unobvious, since the protrusion of the stem indicating the presence of a notehead is imperceptible. Consequently, in GE (→FE,EE,IE) both voices coincide on c3, while a2 is totally absent. In the main text we provide a different interpretation of the A notation – we consider the c3 quaver a remaining element of the initial version (or erroneous) of notation without the note having been prolonged, while in the bottom voice we put a2, which – as resulting in a more natural melodic sequence in this voice – is, according to us, written here.

  in A, possible interpretation

 in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

When interpreted literally, the A dynamic markings seem contradictory –  is already under the 2nd crotchet in the bar, hence there is no point of reference for . In the content transcription of A (version "edited text") we relate  to the L.H. minim, which can be considered a suggestion for independent dynamics in the parts of both hands in the following bars.
However, we believe that the most convincing, both in terms of sources and music, explanation of the A notation is the following:  is the initial version, left by inattention after having introduced later markings, that is  and . We provide the resulting version, compliant with the GE text (→FE,EE,IE), in the main text.
