The missing accent in FE (→EE1) could be blamed on the copyist's oversight, since the mark written on the stave is poorly visible in A. Nevertheless, since in bar 135, in a similar context, the visible A accent is also absent in FE, it is more likely that both marks were added to A after the basis for FE, that is [FC], had been finished. GE reproducing the accent as short is a frequent inaccuracy concerning long accents. The short EE2 accent was repeated after GE1. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE revisions , Errors in FE , Inaccuracies in GE |

In A (→GE) Chopin marked the staccato articulation for the R.H. bottom voice only in the first 2 bars of this theme (bars 127-128). These dots must be considered model indications, supposed to be followed also in subsequent bars with similar texture. On the other hand, we cannot rule out a mistake, since Chopin stopped writing dots after the line ended. Regardless of the reason for their absence, Chopin added them to [FC] or while proofreading FE, which we include in the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

The A accent, like the one in bar 127, was probably added after [FC] had been finished, which explains its absence in FE (→EE1). In this case, GE reproduced it correctly as a long accent, yet EE2 still added a short mark. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE revisions |

The safest explanation for the absence of the accent in FE (→EE) would be it having been added to A after the basis for FE had been finished ([FC]). An oversight seems to be less likely if we take into account the absence of accents also in bar 144, 146, 148 and 150. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

b. 144-146

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

The long accents entered into A (→GE) at the beginning of bar 144 and 146 are probably inaccurate, which is indicated by a comparison with respective marks in analogous bar 148 and 150 as well as 224-230 and 311-315. Due to the above, in the main text we suggest short accents here. The absence of these marks in FE almost certainly means that Chopin added them to A after [FC] had been finished. In EE1 out of two FE accents only the first one was reproduced, whereas in EE2 the three remaining ones were added – as short ones – after comparing it with GE1. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions; Corrections & alterations issues: Long accents , EE revisions , Errors in EE |
