Title: | Variations Brillantes sur la Ronde favorite "Je vends des Scapulaires" de Ludovic |
Dedication: | Mademoiselle Emma Horsford |
EE1 reproduced the text of a proof-copy of FE1, without the latest corrections, with minor errors, e.g. in bar 72 or 153. However, this copy includes a few corrections that were absent in a similar copy sent to GE – they were added or, which seems less likely, a new sample copy was printed – e.g. in bar 17 or 128 (see also the description of FE1).
Many FE defects were corrected, e.g.:
- the majority of the rhythmic mistakes in the theme and in the first variation in bars 33-88 were corrected,
- the majority of the necessary accidentals were added,
- the erroneous G-f seventh was corrected to an F-f octave in bar 22 and the f-e
1 seventh to a g
-e
1 sixth in bar 141,
- the missing bass clef in bar 87 was added, while the bass clef in bar 73 was moved to the right place.
However, a few FE mistakes remained unnoticed, e.g.:
A few defects were repeated after FE, as Chopin corrected them after having sent the copy meant to serve as the basis for EE1, e.g. in bar 153 we can see an earlier version of the chord on the 4th quaver – without b1.
In EE1 a few minor mistakes were committed, e.g. the b tone in the chord on the 3rd quaver in bar 205 was omitted, a few wedges were overlooked (in bar 10, 25, 156), as well as the pedal release mark in bar 125. In addition, a number of revisions were introduced, at times aptly correcting FE deficiencies, e.g. a wedge was added in bar 23 or a slur in bar 37. The erroneous "zf" abbreviations present in FE were not repeated, replacing them by
,
or rf.
