Title: | Variations Brillantes sur la Ronde favorite "Je vends des Scapulaires" de Ludovic |
Dedication: | Mademoiselle Emma Horsford |
Teaching copy of FE1 belonging to Chopin’s pupil Napoleon Orda. It contains the fingering written by the composer, performance directions,
corrections of printing errors:
- fingering in bar 74, 134, 167-168, 172 and 221;
- lines illustrating the direction of the separated accompaniment voice in bar 18 and 166;
- accent over d1 in bar 129;
- slurs between bars 86-87 and in bar 129 – probably meant to supplement the ones omitted in FE;
- correction of the erroneously printed g1-d2 fifth to a g1-c2 fourth in bar 11.
In a few places we can see different types of lines drawing the pupil's attention to certain elements of notation, e.g. slurs or rests. Such lines are also found in other teaching copies Chopin was developing with his pupils. It seems that some lines cannot be clearly interpreted; it is likely that they accompanied the master's explanations and gestures while working on a certain fragment – see, e.g. bars 128-133, 167, 171-172.
