Slurs
b. 21-22
|
composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major
..
The slurs in A in bars 21-30 are written in a quite precise manner. Without any doubt, it was the beginning and ending of the slur at the transition to the new great stave (after bar 21) that was most problematic for the engraver; they were interpreted as a single, long slur. FE and EE have two slurs here, which is most similar to A. In GE2 (→GE3→GE4) in bar 21 there are two slurs and a long slur from bar 22 matching A's slurring. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE |

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

We add a slur over the double-note chords written in A. In GE1 it was moved under the notes, the correct notation was reinstated in GE2 (→GE3) (→GE4). The double slur EE is probably a result of an editorial revision, and the lack of the slur in FE – an error. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , GE revisions |

We give the slur of A and GE2 (→GE3→GE4). The versions of the remaining editions are most probably a result of editorial revisions or a mistake. category imprint: Differences between sources |

The sources differ in the positioning of the end of the slur. A may be interpreted in 2 ways: the most natural one seems to be the way when we lead the slur to the end of the part of the R.H. The slur was recreated in such a manner in GE. FE's slur ends on the triplet, while in EE it was led to the last crotchet of the bar. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources |

In A one can see corrections of slurs, however, it is unclear whether Chopin wanted to combine or separate them. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |
