b. 35-48

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

We adopt the unambiguous staccato dots of A (→GE) and EE (EE is lacking the 1st dot in bar 37). FE's wedges may be an arbitrary revision of the edition and they do not have to result from distinct notation of the manuscript which serves as its base text – in that edition the dots are used only with the slurs in bars 122-126. The absent signs in FE in bars 37, 42 and 44 are probably a result of an oversight.

In EE the pedal was already placed at the beginning of the bar, earlier than in the remaining sources. It can be a result of ambiguous notation of the manuscript - the base text of EE.

The  sign in A may be interpreted in 2 ways:
– as referring to the minim b1 in the R.H.; the sign in bar 35 is similarly placed (in reference to the crotchet F);
– as referring to the note E on the 2nd crotchet of the bar; such an "anticipating" notation can be seen on a number of times in A, e.g. in bar 38.
The sign in EE raises similar doubts.
We consider the placing of the sign under the 2nd crotchet of the bar as more probable, compatible with FE and GE.

In FE in the accord in the L.H. there is no natural next to d1 and an added note. Chopin corrected this mistake in all pupils' copies.
