b. 258-260

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Slur to e4 in GE

Slur to c4 in FE, literal reading

No slur in EE

..

In FE b. 260 opens a new line, in which the slur from the preceding bars is not continued, although its ending in b. 259 clearly indicates that it should be continued. It is difficult to say whether this inaccuracy was related to the fact that EE omitted the slur. In the main text we give the slur of GE, which is certainly correct.

b. 258

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

No timpani cue in AsIAf & A (→GEFESB,EE1EE2)

Cue in FE & EE3

..

The minim tremolo was added – certainly by Chopin – in the stage of proofreading FE1. We replace the "tim" abbreviation used there with the contemporary "Timp." The musical notation is of a conventional nature – Chopin must have meant an octave tremolando . This is not an accurate reproduction of the timpani part either, since in the timpani the tremolo lasts only a crotchet and ends with a single note on the 4th beat of the bar (quaver and rest). The remaining sources of the piano part contain here only the solo voice rest. See also bar 260. The described addition was also introduced by EE3, undoubtedly on the basis of a comparison with FE.

In GE g2 in RH is not tied. And in GE4 there is redundant  before this note.

b. 259

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

D1 in EE & GC (→GE)

E1-D in FE1

Octave as a supposed FE1 version

D1-D in FE2

..

The seventh E1-D, written in two-part notation, is definitely an error of FE1 probably resulting from carelessly done proofing. We give the octave D1-D as the intended version of that edition, which results in a version analogous to bar 243. It is not entirely unlikely that the correction was only meant to be done for the D1 note alone, just like in the remaining sources. In FE2E1 was changed to D1.
