b. 223-226

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

No accents in FE & EE

Long accents in FEG (→GE1)

Short accents in GE2 (→GE3)

Our variant suggestion

..

Chopin wrote four long accents in FEG (the sign in bar 224 is poorly visible on the accessible photocopy, yet its existence is indicated by the presence of a respective sign in GE1). In GE2 (→GE3) long accents were arbitrarily changed to short. As Chopin did not add accents in FE and EE, in the main text we suggest them in the variant form.

b. 223

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Different accents in A

Short accents in GE & EE

Long accents in FE

..

Same as in the previous bar, A has a long accent on dand a short one on c2. The difference was not included in GE, which probably resulted from the intention to simplify the notation. The further changes of the length of accents in FE and EE are also of an accidental nature.

Fingering written into FED

Possible interpretation of FED

Other interpretation of FED

No teaching fingering

..

The '5' digit is written in FED between the ccrotchet and the bquaver, opening the roulade. From the pianistic point of view, it can be ascribed both to cand bas well as to both notes. Taking the above into account, we refrained from resolving this doubt.

b. 223

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In GE1ewas erroneously repeated as the 3rd note. The mistake was rectified in GE2 (→GE3).

b. 223-225

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slurs in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slurs in GE3

..

The missing slurs may be a result of graphic difficulties in reproducing the slurs caused by the original layout, in which the topmost notes in the L.H. are written on the top stave. As there are no doubts that the accompanying quaver figures should be performed legato, in the main text, we add slurs on the basis of comparison with the analogous bars of the recapitulation (bars 574-576). Such an addition was introduced already in GE3.
