b. 123-124

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

..

In EE and GE the tie sustaining c sharp was omitted, which is an obvious oversight.

b. 123

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

Dotted minim in A (→FE,EE) & GE

Minim in GC

..

The lack of a dot extending the G1 minim results from copyist's oversight in GC.

b. 123

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

Slur from a in A (→GC,EE)

Slur from b in FE & GE1

Slur from g in GE2 (→GE3)

..

The earlier start of slur in FE results from misunderstanding the notation in A, otherwise quite clear at this place. A similar inaccuracy in GE is more justified by the mutual relations between the slur and notes in GC which served as Stichvorlage. The retouch of the beginning of slur introduced in GE2 (→GE3) aimed at clarifying the voice-leading.

b. 123-124

composition: Op. 25 No 5, Etude in E minor

Probable interpretation of slur in FC

Slurs in FE (contextual interpretation) & GE2 (→GE3)

Grace-note slur in EE & GE1

..

Interpretation of the slurs of the L.H. in FC poses a significant challenge due to the  sign written over the slurs. According to us, it is more likely that the slurs are supposed to create one sign. The slurs of FE and GE2 (→GE3) can be considered an alternative interpretation of the notation of FC. The version of GE1 is certainly erroneous; the one of EE probably too.

b. 123-127

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

Slur up to bar 127 in GC (→GE)

No slur in FE

Slur up to bar 123 in EE

Slur up to bar 126 suggested by the editors

..

The ending of the slur is written in the sources inaccurately (in FE there are no slurs starting from bar 121). In the main text we suggest a slur based on the most accurately written slurs of analogous phrases (e.g. FE in bars 85-90 and 93-98).
