b. 124

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

No sign in A

Arpeggio sign in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In FE (→GE,EE), the arpeggio mark was almost certainly added by Chopin.

b. 124

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In A (→FE), there is not a single accidental in the R.H. passage in the entire 2nd half of the bar. This simplified notation was supplemented both by GE and EE.

issues: EE revisions , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Inaccuracies in A , Errors repeated in FE

b. 124

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

No markings in sources

Dot & slur suggested by the editors

..

In the main text we add a staccato dot and a slur in the L.H. part after the markings of FC in analogous bars 22, 24 and 28 and 118, 120 and 122.

b. 124-125

composition: Op. 30 No. 4, Mazurka in C# minor

2 slurs in FC (→GE)

Continuous slur in FE (→EE)

..

Both versions of slurring are musically justified – the slur of FC begins together with the new four-bar section, while the slur of FE emphasises the fact that the new section derives from the ending of the preceding phrase. We give the slurs of the principal source.

b. 124

composition: WN 29, Waltz in E minor

..

In PE this bar opens a new page. In the L.H. part the previous bar ends in the treble clef, yet in the discussed bar at the beginning of the line there is a bass clef in PE1, followed immediately by a treble clef. This unnecessary complication resulted from a bass clef having been placed by mistake at the end of bar 123, which was then removed, still in PE1 (one can see traces of this mark). In PE2 this version was simplified by placing a treble clef right at the beginning of the bar. In GE, in which – as in our transcriptions – both bars fall in one line, no clefs are necessary here. While performing the correction in PE2 the arpeggio mark before the L.H. chord was removed by mistake.
