EE2 - Corrected reprint of EE1

Publisher: Wessel & Co.
Date: ⇒1840
Title: Douze Etudes || No. 17
Dedication: None

Among the numerous interventions of the reviewer to the text of EE2, the most significant ones include:

  • addition of detailed fingering in bars 1, 21, 24-25, 45-53, 55,
    58-59, 61-68, 71, 73, 81-83, 85-88, 95, 98-101, 112-119, 122-124, 130 and 137;
  • addition of an octave sign at the beginning of bar 73;
  • change of f to E in bars 9 and 36 (probably after comparison with FE);
  • addition of a  raising d to d in bar 122.

Among other introduced changes, one can mention addition of overlooked naturals in bars 14 and 16.

The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from a later impression (1843), in which the individual title page was replaced with the cover of the Wessel & Co's Complete Collection of the Compositions of Frederic Chopin series. EE2 was then reprinted with further versions of this collective cover (completed with next Chopin pieces published by Wessel) until ca. 1858, when certain modifications were performed in the note text (see the characteristics of EE3). EE2 also includes copies of this Etude published separately. All versions of EE2 with a collective cover, as well as those published separately, are devoid of the authentic dedication.
