b. 107-108

composition: Op. 2, Variations, complete

Slurs in A, contextual interpretation

Slurs in GE (→FE,EE)

Slurs in FESB

..

At the end of b. 107, it is uncertain which R.H. voices the slurs of A concern – practically, each combination of two out of three voices is possible. On the basis of a comparison with analogous b. 123, we assume that they concern the two bottom voices. This is how it was interpreted, more or less, in GE (→FE,EE), in which, however, the top slur begins only just over the last semiquaver, while the bottom one reaches d1 and not b1 at the beginning of b. 108. The notation was further distorted in FESB.

The early start to the  hairpin in GE (→FE,EE,FESB) is most probably an inaccuracy of the engraver of GE1

e2 in AsI, A (→GEFE,FESB) & EE2 (→EE3)

e2 in EE1 (→EE2)

Contrary to the situation in b. 103, in A (→GEFESB) there is no cautionary  to e2. A flat was added in FE, perhaps at Chopin's request, whereas in EE1 was inserted here, raising e2 to e2. This version, possible in itself, must be erroneous, which is proven by – aside from the compliant version of the remaining sources – the comparison with analogous b. 104, 120 and 124. This erroneous revision (or maybe simply a mistake) was corrected only just in EE3, where the  was changed to a .

The last semiquaver in GE1 (→FE1) is an erroneous a3 note. The mistake was corrected in GE2 (→GE3,FESB) and – perhaps at Chopin's request – in FE2.
