b. 1-2

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Longer slurs in GE

Shorter slurs in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we put longer slurs after GE, which was based on [A]. It is also compliant with the slurring in subsequent bars.

b. 1-4

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Single slurs in FE (→EE) & GE1

Double slurs in GE2

..

In GE2 L.H. slurs were added in b. 1-4; we consider them superfluous – in such parallel sequences, particularly those written on one stave, Chopin would be satisfied with single slurs, which should be regarded as referring to both hands.

b. 4-8

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

No slur in FE (→EE) & GE

Slur suggested by editors

..

In the main text we suggest a phrase mark after the authentic one in analogous bars 263-267. The places were certainly not supposed to be performed differently.

No pedalling in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we include the pedalling of GE; however, we move the  mark slightly to the left, under the nearest octave, since its actual position (see the graphical transcription – the version "transcription") is inaccurate – the pedal should be pressed either by the end of the 7th semiquaver (which, in addition to an unnecessary complication, would result in the same sonic effect) or on the rest, which is equally irrational. We assume that Chopin meant a multiplied e-c sixth, since the Chopinesque pedalling is, in principle, harmonic – it produces harmonies out of various, non-simultaneous sounds.

General issue of authenticity of the pedalling of GE – see the next note.

b. 8

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

..

In FE1 the last two R.H. dyads are c3-a3 sixths. This patent mistake was corrected in FE2 and EE.
