b. 206-209

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

No staccato dots in GE & FE (→EE)

Dots suggested by editors

..

In accordance with the explanation in the note to b. 127, in the main text we suggest adding articulation markings (in square brackets) after b. 127-130 and 147-148. We also add slurs (see the adjacent note).

b. 207-208

Grace notes in bars 207-208 in GE1 & FE (→GE), contextual interpretation

Grace notes in bar 208 in GE2

..

There are no doubts that the version of GE2 is arbitrary, although it is difficult to say what could have induced the reviser to introduce this change – whether he considered the authentic notation to be wrong, suggesting an improper performance, or whether he considered the change to be of an ordering nature, with no influence on the performance (see the next note).

b. 208

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

..

There is no accidental to the bottom note of the 2nd grace note (d2) in the sources. This patent inaccuracy was removed only in GE2, in which the first grace note, with a  to the bottom note, was moved to the beginning of b. 208. It could have been the inaccuracies concerning the accidentals of the grace notes that influenced the decision to correct the rhythm too.

b. 208-209

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Continuous slur in GE

Separate slurs in FE (→EE)

..

As the division of the slur in FE (→EE) falls during a tied note, practically, both versions of slurring bear the same meaning. To the main text we adopt the slur of GE as compliant with the slurs in analogous b. 129 and 148-149, running from the beginning of the phrase.

b. 210-214

composition: Op. 44, Polonaise in F♯ minor

Staccato dots in GE

No marks in FE (→EE)

..

Chopin could have added the staccato dots to [A] (→GE) after [FC], on which FE (→EE) was based, had already been finished. As was the case with b. 190-195, the difference has no impact on the performance, while in the main text we give the more accurate notation of GE.
