The authenticity of the tie of GE does not raise major concerns; there could also be a number of reasons for its absence in FE (→EE), e.g. an oversight of the copyist or of the engraver of FE or the tie having been added to [A] after [FC] had already been finished. On the other hand, it is the version of FE, which repeats e, that is compliant with the version of analogous b. 225-226. Therefore, in the main text we suggest a variant solution. category imprint: Differences between sources |

The version suggested as an alternative with respect to the version of the sources is a version reconstructed on the basis of an analysis of the corrections performed by Chopin in this place in a draft of a fragment of the middle section of the Polonaise, tempo di Mazourka (AImaz). It is also compliant with the second appearance of this phrase – in b. 227. The missing d3 note, although it seems to be a minor difference, changes, however, the course of the melody, and quite significantly. The version of FE (→EE) and GE could have resulted from Chopin not having finished the corrections or from misunderstandings. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

According to us, neither source nor stylistic criteria allow us to give preference to any of these versions. Due to the above reason, in the main text we suggest a variant solution. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , Authentic corrections of FE , Partial corrections |
