b. 33-34

composition: Op. 28 No. 12, Prelude in G♯ minor

..

Starting from the 2nd beat of b. 33, the R.H. part was enhanced by Chopin; he crossed out the earlier version, which we present below: . The changes consisted in making the bottom voice independent and in rejecting short slurs in favour of a longer phrase mark. Considerable corrections can also be seen in the following bars – see the notes to b. 36, 37-38 and 39

composition: Op. 28 No. 12, Prelude in G♯ minor

FE1 overlooked the accidentals before the 2nd L.H. crotchet. The patent mistake was corrected in FE2 (→EE).

Crotchet f2 in A (→FCGE)

No crotchet in A (contextual interpretation→FEEE)

..

Due to crossings-out and corrections, the notation of the 3rd beat of the bar is not entirely clear in A, which is proven by the difference between the versions of FC (→GE) and FE (→EE). According to us, it is more likely that Chopin wanted to remove the f2 crotchet, as it was interpreted in FE, and this is the version we give in the main text.

The crossings-out visible in A reveal the initial version of the L.H. part, which we present below: .

b. 37

composition: Op. 28 No. 12, Prelude in G♯ minor

..

At the beginning of the bar, Chopin wrote cautionary sharps before a1(2) in A (→FCGE). According to us, since a1(2) was restored at the end of the previous bar, these accidentals are unjustified; they were removed in FE (→EE1) and restored – most probably after GE1 – in EE2. In the main text we omit these accidentals; in turn, we add sharps before the L.H. octave.
