EE1 - First English edition

Publisher: Wessel & Co.
Date: I 1840
Plate number: (W & Co. No. 3098.)
Title: Twenty four Grand Préludes through all Keys
Dedication: His Friend Camille Pleyel

First English edition in which the whole Op. 28 was divided into two fascicules bearing consecutive plate numbers (3098 & 3099), and containing respectively 14 and 10 preludes. EE1 is based on FE2, with some arbitrary revisions – see Prelude in C no. 1. Chopin had no part in preparing the edition.

In the Prelude in A major both Chopinesque oversights were corrected by adding a  raising d2 to d2 in b. 11 and a  restoring a1 in b. 13. However, two mistakes were committed – the pedal markings in b. 5-6 were overlooked as well as the tie to a1 in b. 15-16.
