composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major

No performance marking in AI

dolce in A (→GEFEEE)

..

AI does not have the indication dolce. Chopin added it in A (→GEFEEE) in both bars 10 and 34.

was omitted from GE1 (→FE), and erroneously placed on the 3rd beat of the bar in EE. The missing asterisk was added back in GE2, but was inaccurately placed. In our main text we rely on AI (→A).

b. 34-35

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major

No mark in AI

 in A

 in GE (→FE)

 in EE

..

We give sign in the main text according to A. In GE (→FE) the sign is reproduced somewhat inaccurately, and in EE it is yet shortened. In AI, as in bar 11, there is no hairpin.

b. 35

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major

With a dot in A (→GEFEEE)

..

No staccato dot is visible in AI (in bar 11, a pattern for the bar 35, not written out).

Slur in AI and A (→GEFEEE)

Our alternative suggestion

..

Slurs in the sources are consistent and unequivocal (only an earlier beginning of a slur in A could be considered). However, because slurs in AI and A are practically identical in bars 33-35, it is possible to regard slurs in this fragment in A as written by Chopin with less attention. Our alternative suggestion takes account of a comparison with A notation in analogous bars 11-12, where the slur reaches the e1.
