Title: | Vingt-quatre Préludes |
Dedication: | Son ami J. C. Kessler |
GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in C no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.
In this Prelude the most significant arbitrary changes concern the rhythmic values of two roulades, in b. 8 and 12, in which semiquavers were changed to demisemiquavers. In turn, the most serious mistake is the overlooked e1 note in the passage in b. 17. Moreover, naturals were added, hence definitely determining the sound of the last notes in b. 12 as d and d1.
