b. 73

composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major

No slur endings in A1 & GE

Slur endings in FE (→EE)

..

We consider the endings of the curved lines in the parts of both hands to be an inaccurate interpretation of the ambiguous notation of A1 by FE (→EE).

b. 73-77

No markings in A1 (→FEEE)

Pedalling in GE

..

In the main text we include the pedalling in bar 73 and 77 added by Chopin to [A2] or while proofreading GE.

b. 73-75

composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major

5 long accents in A1, probable interpretation

3 long, 2 short accents in A1, literal reading

2 long, 3 short accents suggested by the editors

5 short accents in FE (→EE) & GE

..

We give three possible interpretations of the accents of A1 in these bars, including also the notation of analogous b. 81-83 in A1 and GE1, based on [A2]. The short accents of the editions most probably result from the engravers' routine interpretation of the markings.

b. 74-75

composition: Op. 50 No. 1, Mazurka in G major

2 slurs in A1 (→FEEE)

Continuous slur in GE

..

Both versions of the slurring are most probably authentic and could be, according to us, considered equal. In the main text we give the slurring of A1 due to the possibility of GE having inaccurately reproduced the slurs of [A2] as well as to the visible corrections of the slurs in A1, which prove that the slurring concept was well thought out.
