A dot in A (→GE)

Absence of any sign in FE (→EE)

The version of A (→GE) does not give rise to any doubts of either source-related or musical nature. As for the version of FE:

  • it is not certain whether the dot was actually removed and whether it was done upon the composer's request; the trace visible there could result from a printing mistake or a misunderstanding that occurred during the proofing;
  • that type of dot-slur combination in which the dot relates to the first of the two slurred notes is practically absent from piano literature due to the fact that the execution of such articulation would be quite unnatural.
