The first German edition was based on a proof copy of FE that did not contain the latest changes. Chopin's participation in its development – in the form of a superficial proofreading of GE1 or a copy of FE sent as Stichvorlage – cannot be excluded. Chopin's possible interventions include:
- change of g2 to f2 in bar 143,
- correction of the accidental in the ending of the trill in bar 150,
- addition of slurs in bars 174-176,
- extension of the slur in bars 178-179,
- staccato dots in bar 251.
Less likely Chopinesque corrections could be seen in:
- change of b2 to a2 in bar 146,
- addition of performance marks in bars 240-245
GE1 is not free from mistakes and inaccuracies, e.g.:
- missing crotchet setm in bar 7,
- overlooked wedge in bar 33,
- no pedalling in bars 76-79,
- overlooked accidentals in bar 141,
- overlooked notes in the chord in bar 188,
- additional note in the chord in bar 188 and 236,
- g1 instead of a1 in the chord in bar 232,
- missing note in the chord in bar 259.
Some of the changes may be undoubtedly ascribed to revisers. They include:
- changing (unifying) all accents as short,
- dim. and cresc. placed over/under the hairpin.
There are copies of GE1 with a different cover.
