b. 401-403

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

Ties to c2 in A & GE2

Tie & slur in GE1

Slur in bar 401-402 in FE1

Slurs in FE2

Double slur in bars 401-402 in EE1

3 slurs in EE2 (→EE3)

..

The ties of cwere reproduced in the editions with errors (similarly as in analogous bars 57-59 and 397-399). In GE1 only the first of them was placed at the right pitch, whereas the second combined the e2 and fnotes. The ties were further deformed in FE1 – the first one runs from e2 to a2, whereas the second one was omitted. In addition, FE (→EE) overlooked cat the beginning of bar 402. In FE2g1-aslur was added in bars 402-403, which can be seen as an inaccurately performed Chopinesque proofreading. The tie was not included in EE, which can mean that it was added in the last phase of proofreading. The versions of EE1 and EE2 (→EE3) are certainly a result of arbitrary revisions. In the main text we give the only undoubtedly authentic version of A, reproduced correctly only in GE2.

b. 403

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

e2 in chord in A (→GE1FEEE)

e2-f2 in GE2

..

Originally, the 2nd crotchet in the bar in A was a c2-f2-c3. Chopin changed the middle note from f2 to ein the last phase of reviewing A (→GE1FEEE). The version of GE2 is a result of an erroneous interpretation of this correction.

b. 404

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

d2 in chord in A & GE2

No d2 in chord in GE1 (→FEEE)

..

The version of GE1 (→FEEE) is almost certainly erroneous – breaking the octave line of the topmost voice is totally unjustified in this case. Therefore, in the main text we preserve the version of A. This evaluation remains unchanged in the face of the addition of a , overlooked by Chopin, raising d3 to din GE1, since it was most probably performed by the reviser (in A Chopin also overlooked the  raising d2 to d2).

b. 404

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

No c3 in chord in A (→GE)

c3 in chord in FE (→EE)

..

cnote added to the chord must be a Chopinesque proofreading of FE (→EE). See also the note in the next bar.

b. 405

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

No c2 in chord in A (→GE)

c3 in chord in FE (→EE)

..

There is no doubt that it was Chopin that was the author of the correction introduced in the proofreading of FE (→EE). Chopin ended the Etude in F major, op. 10 no. 8 with an identical chord, also completed in the proofreading of FE.
