Slurs

Taking into account the erroneous beginning and end of the slur of GE1, it is difficult to assume that Chopin controlled this place. Therefore, in the main text we give the most likely interpretation of the slurs of A – due to the change of the page (from bar 249), the separation of the slurs can be questioned; however, according to us, neither the slur in bar 248 nor the one in bar 249 suggest an intention to combine them. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccurate slurs in A |

In A the slur at the end of bar 252 (the last one on the page) indicates an intention to lead it to the next bar, where the slur's ending was not written though. Perhaps it was the reason, together with an interrupted continuity of the sign caused by an uneven ink outflow, why the slur was shortened in the editions. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccurate slurs in A |

A Chopin proofreading of the end of the slur in FE (→EE) is uncertain. However, even if the version of FE is an inaccurate reproduction of GE1, the slurs can be considered a contextual interpretation of the slur of A, due to the continuity of the figurations of the R.H. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

The inaccurate, ambiguous notation of GE1 – the slur in bar 253, the last one in line, indicates a continuation, yet it is not confirmed by the beginning of the slur in bar 254 – was interpreted in FE (→EE) as separated slurs. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccuracies in FE |
