In GE1 (→FE→EE) the first group of quavers is provided with the same markings as the next: with a staccato dot on the 1st note and a slur. It is certainly a mistake: an error or rather an attempt of revision. The signs were removed in GE2, restoring the text of A, in which the markings appear in the figures spanning at least a tenth.

The half-bar slurs of GE1 (→FE→EE) are a typical example of schematic thinking of the engraver of GE1. Accurately marked slurs of A were restored in GE2. See also the note at the beginning of the bar.

In the main text we give the rhythm of A, not raising any source or musical doubts. The version of GE1 (→FE→EE) is probably erroneous:

  • the layout of the text in GE1 practically excludes a possibility of performing rhythmical corrections at this place;
  • the authentic phrasing combines less naturally with a dotted rhythm on the 3rd beat (cf. phrasing and rhythm in the previous bar).

GE2 restored the version of A.

The sophisticated articulation marking – legato in the top voice of the octaves and staccato in the bottom one – was only partially reproduced in GE1. In the proofreading of FE (→EE), Chopin restored staccato in the bottom voice. Two out of three dots were added also in GE2.

Same as in analogous bar 85, leading the slur to the end of bar 93 is a characteristic inaccuracy of GE1, which, in this case, included also the beginning of the next bar. Inconsistency with A is even more striking, since Chopin modified both slurs in the manuscript and the result of the corrections does not raise any doubt.
