b. 169-172

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Pedalling in GC

No pedalling in FE (→EE1)

Pedalling in GE1

Pedalling in GE2

Pedalling in EE2

..

The pedalling in GC was added by Chopin. GE1 recreated it incompletely and inaccurately, which was completed – inaccurately – in GE2. The pedalling of GE1 was repeated and completed also in EE2. Cf. bars 179-180189-191 and 193-198.

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

B-f in GC (→GE) & FE2 (→EE,FE3FE4)

B in FE1

..

The comparison with GC and later correction in FE2 prove that the version of FE1 is erroneous. The omission of was probably the reason of an inaccurate shortening of the slur of the grace note.

b. 170-172

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Two slurs in GC

Tenuto slur in FE (→EE)

One slur in GE

..

The slurs in GC are written neglectfully, hence their meaning is unobvious – GE regarded them as parts of one slur. In the main text we give the slur of FE, displaying a characteristic, prolonged tenuto ending, analogous to the slur in the next phrase.

b. 172

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

GC (→GE) and FE have a cautionary  before the 3rd crotchet in bar 172 (g). The superfluous sign was removed in EE.

b. 172

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

FE has no  restoring f on the last crotchet. The mistake went unnoticed in consecutive corrections of FE, as well as in pupils' copies. However, it cannot be ruled out that the sign added in EE was indicated by the composer.
