In GC (→GE) there is a phrase mark instead of a tie to e in the L.H. It is most probably a copyist's mistake (cf. next bar), category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors of GC |

The pedalling of FE (→EE) is less accurate, while in bar 164 it is certainly erroneous (no sign before ). In the main text we give the undoubtedly correct indications of GC (→GE). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE |

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

It is difficult to say which of the sources based directly on [A] – FE and GC – reproduced Chopin's notation more accurately. Therefore, we give the version of the principal source, i.e. FE (→EE) – see Rules of creation of the main text. The missing mark in GE1 must be an oversight of the engraver. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions |

b. 164-168
|
composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

The error in GE1 might have resulted from the inaccurate notation of GC – the slur in bar 166 (last in the system) only reaches to the last crotchet despite the slur in the subsequent bars distinctly indicating a continuation. In GE2 that notation was interpreted correctly. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions |

In the main text we include the two-bar sign written in GC and repeated in GE2. GE1 printed only a half of the sign on a new page, which, in turn, was repeated in EE2. No sign in FE (→EE1) is probably a result of the engraver's inaccuracy. Cf. bar 161. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in GE , GE revisions |
