b. 57

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

f1 in GC (→GE), FE3 (→FE4), EE & FESch

a1 in FE1 (→FE2)

..

The version of FE1 (→FE2) is certainly erroneous, which is proved by Chopin proofreading in FE3 (→FE4) and FESch. The correct version of EE can also be a result of Chopin's correcting the base text to this edition.

b. 57

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

in GC (→GE) & EE2

No marking in FE (→EE1)

..

It cannot be excluded that the  sign in GC was added by Chopin (together with the preceding ). In any case, we give this certainly authentic improvement of dynamics in the main text.

b. 59-63

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

in GC (→GE) & FE1 (→FE2)

e in FE3 (→FE4), EE & FESch

..

The note present at the beginning of bars 59 and 63 in GC (→GE) and FE1 (→FE2) is the original version of the bass in these bars. Chopin changed them to e in the proofreading of FE3 (→FE4), in the base text to EE and FESch. In the corresponding bar of the recapitulation (bar 187), the fifth as the base of chord is present accordingly in all sources.

b. 60

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

a1 in GC (→GE)

g1 in FE (→EE)

..

The version of FE (→EE) is probably erroneous – cf. analogous bar 188 as well as a slightly extended variant of this motif in bars 64 and 192. The absence of a correction in this place is, however, puzzling – Chopin did not pay attention to this note both in the detailed proofreading of FE2 (twice – as the base text to EE and FE3) and in the proofreading of FE4, as well as in the pupil's copies.

Slur in GC

Slurs in FE (→EE)

Three-bar slur in GE1, contextual interpretation

Four-bar slur in GE2

..

In the main text we give the undoubtedly authentic slurs of FE (→EE). The slur in GC, starting from the middle of bar 60, is surely inaccurate and was misrepresented in GE1. The slur in GE2 is an attempt to interpret the musically unjustified slur in GC.
