EE1 is based on a copy of FE2 with entries (proofreading) of Chopin, it also bears traces of a patent editorial revision (see also the 1st movement of the Sonata). Among the changes introduced in EE1 with respect to FE2 one can mention:

  • addition of slurs in bars 7-8, 50-54, 78-8081-87, 88-92 and analog., 120-123, 129-133, 145-146;
  • addition of b2 in bar 40;
  • addition of cresc. - - and accents in bars 45-49 and 233-237;
  • correction of pedalling in bar 55;
  • addition of three  in bars 56-57 and 244-245;
  • correction of the erroneous g to b in bar 108;
  • addition of a long accent over c2 in bar 117;
  • change of  to  in bar 238.

A part of additions, mainly accidentals, comes most probably from the reviser, although the addition of some of them by Chopin cannot be excluded, e.g.: sharps or naturals in bar 4, 24, 25, 29-30, 56, flat in bar 183, dots and accents in bar 21, 23 and 25, arpeggios in bar 22, slurs and dots in the L.H. in bars 46-49. An example of an arbitrary revision is the addition of a  before the most probably erroneous note in bar 130. A characteristic manner of EE1 is replacing certain horizontal accents, e.g., in bars 261-265.

In spite of Chopin proofreading and revision, not all mistakes and inaccuracies of EE1 were removed, e.g. no  in bar 200, as well as a significant number of overlooked accidentals – see the characterization of EE2.
