Issues : Long accents
b. 8
|
composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II
..
No accents in GC (→GE) is almost certainly an oversight of the copyist, who overlooked all signs between the staves in bars 7-13. The length of the 1st accent is confirmed by the notation of FE in bar 196, being a repetition of bar 8, and clearly longer signs in similar bar 28. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Inaccuracies in FE , Errors of GC |

No accents in GC (→GE) is almost certainly an oversight of the copyist, who overlooked all signs between the staves in bars 7-13. The short accents in EE are certainly a result of the standard interpretation of the notation of FE. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE inaccuracies , Errors of GC |

b. 28

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

In the main text, we give the accents, long and short, on the basis of the clear notation of GC (→GE). The omission of the second one in FE is probably a result of the engraver's oversight. The EE1 version is a typical misrepresentation of a long accent, and GE was the probable inspiration for the EE2 revision. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE revisions , EE inaccuracies |

b. 34

In the main text we give two accents written in GC, since the top one (short) could have been added there by Chopin, despite the presence of the bottom one (long). category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Errors in GE , GE revisions , Authentic corrections in GC |

The long accent at the beginning of the bar was almost certainly written by Chopin in the base text to EE. According to us, the sign refers rather to the four-bar-long c2 note, hence in the main text we place it next to this note (it can be possible that Chopin wrote it under the minim, which fell between the voices of the R.H. and was misunderstood by the engraver). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Authentic corrections of EE |
