The used by Chopin in [A] (→GC) abbreviated notation of bars 12-13 (both in the part of the L.H., only the first one in the part of the R.H.) raises doubts concerning the pedalling issues. According to us, it seems to be most justified to adopt that the indications are to be in bars 11-12, but not in bar 13. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in GE , GE revisions |

The correct notation of the trill in the 1st half of this bar and all its repetitions – bars 28, 74 and 82 – appeared in the sources (not including pupil's copies) only several years after the publication of the Sonata, in EE2 and GE2. The mistake was committed by Chopin, who in [A] (→GC→GE1→GE2mar,→FE1→FE2→EE2) wrote the trill minim as a G In EE there is also no wavy line after the trill. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Errors in FE , Annotations in FED , Errors in EE , Errors resulting from corrections , Errors in GE , GE revisions , EE inaccuracies , Errors of A , Annotations in FES , Authentic corrections of FE , Errors of GC |

On the basis of analysis of all four analogous places – see bars 14-16 – in the main text we give slurs based on the version of FE and EE (FE5 does not include slurs here, which is a patent error). We suggest the slur at the transition between bars 22-23, which could have been added by Chopin in the base text to EE, in a variant form, in brackets. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Inaccuracies in FE , Corrections in A , Errors in GE , GE revisions , Inaccuracies in GC |
