b. 15-16

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt III

End of slur in GC, literal reading

End of slur in GC (contextual interpretation→GE) & FE (→EE), contextual interpretation

..

In bar 16, the first in a new line, in FE (→EE) there is no ending of the slur started in bar 15, which is a patent mistake. We reconstruct the overlooked ending on the basis of analogous bars 24, 70 and 78.
The ending of the slur in GC, interpreted literally, may be interpreted as a "tenuto-slur," frequently used by Chopin. However, the comparison with a similarly ended slur in bar 18 proves that the shift of the ending of the slur beyond the chord in the middle of bar 16 is probably only a writing manner, devoid of significance. In the main text, we give a slur ended in a conventional way, in accordance with GE and the reconstructed version of the remaining editions.
Similarly in bars 23-24, 69-70 and 77-78.

b. 17-18

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt III

No signs in GC (→GE) & FE

 & accent in EE

..

The   signs are only in EE, added most probably by Chopin in the base text to this edition. The sign in bar 18, having a form of an accent under the chord on the 2nd beat of the bar, is almost certainly a result of misunderstanding of the entry of Chopin – in the original graphical layout the chords in the L.H. are divided between both staves, as a result of which the  written between the staves can be understood as referring to the L.H. only (similarly in bar 26). In the main text we suggest a much more likely interpretation of these signs, given in EE in the recapitulation (bars 72 and 80).

b. 20

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt III

..

The correct notation of the trill in the 1st half of this bar and all its repetitions – bars 28, 74 and 82 – appeared in the sources (not including pupil's copies) only several years after the publication of the Sonata, in EE2 and GE2. The mistake was committed by Chopin, who in [A] (→GCGE1GE2mar,→FE1FE2EE2) wrote the trill minim as a G (with a cautionary ). The error was noticed in the proofreading of FE3 (→FE4,FE5), however, at the time of performing the correction, another mistake was committed, by moving the note mechanically together with the preceding it flat, which resulted in an F. The correct text was marked in all pupil's copies.
A similar mistake, consisting in writing the top second of the main note of the trill instead of the main one, from which the trill starts in this context, is to be find also in, e.g., the Bolero in A minor, Op. 19, bar 187.

In EE there is also no wavy line after the trill.
